Firewise Milestones

Our progress through the official recognition process

This page tracks our progress using the official framework outlined by Fire Safe Council Assessment Leader Steve Eubanks. We update the checkboxes as we complete each milestone to show transparency and momentum to our community.

Phase 1: Sparking Interest

  • Community meeting to confirm interest in seeking recognition as a Firewise Community (FWC)
  • Designate a FWC Committee and a FWC Leader
  • Establish FWC identity on the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) website portal

Phase 2: The Risk Assessment

  • Community Meeting to learn about and discuss the overall recognition process (can be led by Fire Safe Council Risk Assessment Leader)
  • Schedule and complete the physical Community Risk Assessment (viewing the entire neighborhood)
  • Review observations, recommendations, and the first draft of the NFPA Community Risk Assessment document prepared by the Assessment Leader
  • Finalize the Community Risk Assessment document

Phase 3: The Action Plan

  • Prepare the 3-year Action Plan using the NFPA template with assistance from the Assessment Leader
  • Review and finalize the Action Plan

Phase 4: Official Recognition

  • Submit the Community Risk Assessment form and 3-year Action Plan into the NFPA website portal
  • Request up to two official FWC signs to post in the community
  • Achieve official approval and share the electronic NFPA certificate with all residents
